The Delaware chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the premier organization for HR professionals, invites you to submit a presentation proposal for our annual state conference.
The conference will cover both strategic and tactical views of Human Resources. The conference will address how we position ourselves within the organizations we serve, both now and in the future.
The conference will be held at the University of DE Clayton Hall in Newark, DE. Expected attendance is ~400 participants, the majority of them HR professionals.
The one and one-half day conference will include concurrent sessions (ranging from 1 hour to 1 1/2hrs. which includes a 10 - 15 minute Q & A session at the end) and 2 - 3 general sessions. It is preferable (but not required) that concurrent sessions contain an audience interactive component and/or case studies.

What is SHRM?

Presenter Application Process
1. Choose a Topic
- Possible “hot topics” include, but not limited to: leadership, wellness, effective HR, training and development, organizational design, tactical/strategic, EAPs, etc.
2. Prepare your presentation proposal
- Title of your presentation – be descriptive and interesting
- Brief description of presentation – 75 words or less. This should describe the content clearly and motivate people to attend
- List objectives for your presentation (if it’s a skill exchange), or the benefits to participants for attending the program.
- The outcome of the session must be clearly described.
- How will your program change participants’ behavior?
- What will participants be able to do differently or better
- How do your session objective(s) relate to professional or personal activities
- Can attainment of the objectives be measured or evaluated?
- What is the level of HR professionals your presentation is targeted to?
- Presentation Design Plan – provide a detailed description of your presentation, including a topic outline, timeframes for each topic, presentation method. How do you get participants to engage with your content? Please be sure to provide enough detail for the reviewers to visualize the presentation delivery.
- Presenter Experience – describe your expertise in your chosen area and your ability to relate to the audience. Limit your comments to a paragraph. Resumes may be used only as additional supporting material.
3. Proposal Review
A committee of DE SHRM Conference Planning members will review each speaker application and select the speakers.
Review Criteria:
- Interactivity of the presentation
- Clarity of the proposal application which describe the learning objectives, content, delivery and outcome of the presentation
- Innovatio
- Is the proposed speaker truly a subject matter expert on their topic?
- Addressing a current issue or a “hot” topic
- Is the proposed speaker capable of delivering an informative, credible presentation in a captivating way?
4. Submit your proposal, along with a cover letter, to:

YOUR PROPOSAL MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN June 7, 2010
*Proposals received after that date may be deferred for consideration for the 2011 Annual Conference and/or for a monthly chapter meeting.
5. Proposal reviews/speaker selection and notification is expected to be completed by mid-June.
6. If your Proposal is accepted, DE SHRM will:
- ask you to sign a speaker commitment form
- request your audio-visual requirement
- request your speaker biography (75 words or less), and…
- PowerPoint presentations must be submitted to DE SHRM, (Gail Klee), by Sept 3, 2010.
7. General provisions
- Applicants are limited to a maximum of two applications per individual or organization on different topics.
- Speakers are responsible for the actual presentation of their session. DE SHRM will provide a projector (remote operation may not be available) for the speaker’s laptop and a screen. DE SHRM will try to accommodate requests for additional/other AV or presentation equipment if attendance numbers permit. DE SHRM will also provide a board member to introduce each speaker and assist with Q/A. Note: Speaker must bring his/her own laptop!
- Speakers are responsible for their own hand-outs and obtaining copyright permission for such. DE SHRM will no longer reproduce any handouts. Travel, housing and per diem costs are also the responsibility of the Speakers.
- It is prohibited for Speakers to promote their own product within an educational session. Speakers may discuss the use of a product or service within the context of a case-study presentation only. Resources must be multiple and not focus on only one product or service. Speakers with products or services they wish to promote are expected to use alternate methods of promotion such as being an exhibitor or a sponsor.
