http://deshrm.org/monthly_meeting.html

by Margaret (Molly) M. DiBianca of Young, Conaway, Stargatt and Taylor

Meeting Sponsored by University of Delaware Professional and Continuing Studies and Right Management

Join Delaware SHRM at 7:30 am on June 8th for a breakfast meeting at Christiana Hilton. This month’s topic will be presented by Margaret (Molly) M. DiBianca ofYoung, Conaway, Stargatt and Taylor. Molly regularly provides in-house training to managers and supervisors as part of her preventative-practices philosophy. She is a frequent speaker and teaches best practices to human resource professionals, executives and in-house counsel. Ms. DiBianca will provide an overview of “Social Media and Hiring.”

The session will include the impact of social media sites, how social media is causing tremendous changes in recruiting and legal liability and exposure of using social media.

You will be asked: How Current Is Your Organization?

The impact of social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn is undeniable but, also, undefined. Hundreds of millions of Americans now use these sites and others like them for an expanding number of reasons. And it's not just the country's youth online, either. Twitter users are more likely to be Baby Boomers than they are to be youngsters in the 12-to-24 crowd.

So it's no surprise that social media is causing tremendous changes in the way employers recruit and hire new employees. Employers have to look beyond standard recruiting tactics if they hope to secure the most sought-after candidates. But the adventure into the social-media sphere is not without risks. Before you send a friend request to that job applicant, be sure you know how it could expose your organization to legal liability.

Whether you're a master of your Facebook page, or you're still wondering what a "tweet" really is, Molly DiBianca will guide you in the right direction when it comes to social media.

"Margaret (Molly) M. DiBianca maintains a legal practice consisting of equal parts litigation and client counseling. She represents employers in a variety of industries in employment rights claims, discrimination matters and equal employment disputes at the state and federal court level. She defends employers against claims brought by former and current employees and assists employers to enforce restrictive covenants.

She assists clients with internal investigations, wage-and-hour reviews, and employment-practices audits. Molly also counsels employers in the facilitation of reasonable accommodations, and strategies for compliance with federal leave laws.

Molly regularly provides in-house training to managers and supervisors as part of her preventative-practices philosophy. She is a frequent speaker and teaches best practices to human resource professionals, executives and in-house counsel. Molly is a monthly contributor to the Delaware Employment Law Letter and maintains ongoing employment-law commentary at the Delaware Employment Law Blog."
