SHRM Sponsors Funding for HR Internships
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Board of Directors recently announced the availability of funding to support HR internships. Students studying HR at the undergraduate or graduate level are invited to apply and compete for funding to help support themselves during a summer or fall 2008 HR internship. This financial support underscores SHRMs commitment to the next generation of HR professionals by providing an opportunity for students to take advantage of internship opportunities that will help them prepare for their career.

Vickie McCardell, PHR, receives the 2007 Ron Shane HR Lifetime Achievement Award. At yesterday's Delaware State HR Conference, Frank B. Ingraham, Jr., SPHR and Delaware State HR Council Director, announced that Vickie was selected to receive the highest recognition in Delaware's HR community for her contribution to the profession. She is State HR Council Director-Elect, past-president of Delaware SHRM and Human Resources Manager at the International Reading Association. Congratulations! Link.

On February 11, the Department of Labor announced its long-anticipated overhaul of FMLA leave regulations. The DOL has responded to the many complaints from employers looking to clarify the muddy waters of this complex issue! The newly proposed regulations contain changes to include new notice obligations for employers so that employees will better understand their FMLA rights, as well as revised employee notice rules to minimize workplace disruptions because of unscheduled FMLA absences.

    Spring Workshop Conference: Right Career Edge©

    SHRM Delaware State Council is partnering with Right Management to present a half-day workshop designed to help professionals assess their career-related skills and strengths and understand how to leverage those strengths most effectively to provide a greater contribution to their organization. The insight gained ultimately leads to a more highly motivated and engaged professional.

    Participants complete a series of online assessments before attending a half-day training workshop that identifies skills and strengths. Each participant will develop a personal career map before participating in a one-hour personal coaching session that will help them identify ways to better leverage skills and uncover career development opportunities within the organization.

    These workshops will be limited to 15 attendees each. Right Management normally charges $700.00 per participant for this program. HRCI crdits pending
